Lobby Days & Visits at the Capitol Building

Updated: Jan 19

Iowa’s legislative session lasts about 4 months, beginning in January and usually ending sometime in April. As of the 2022 legislative session, we've decided to do things a little differently than past years. We used to pick a hand full of days for our members to come to the Capitol and speak to their legislators about relevant legislation pertaining to medical freedom.

ICI lobby day will be Monday February 17, 2025. We will be located on the 1st floor of the rotunda. You can come and go anytime from Noon - 3:00.

We thankfully have wonderful advisors experienced with the Iowa political climate and it was recommended that a consistent presence at the Capitol was necessary rather than just single day large events/rallies. So we will need EVERYONE to get involved in the process and go talk to your legislators or specific committee members at the Capitol! We will equip you with the information you need to go speak with legislators giving you the flexibility to go lobby when it works for you. If you would like help the first time you go, we will do our best to accommodate your chosen time and join you at the Capitol.

Bills will change and move quickly so we will do our best to keep the information updated so you know exactly what needs to be discussed and when.

SUBCOMMITTEE, COMMITTEE, AND FLOOR VOTES

Legislative bills are introduced after the legislative session starts. We will be monitoring both positive and negative bills. If a bill gets assigned to a subcommittee meeting that is the only time the public may speak during a meeting about the bill. Those meetings are only required a 24-hour notice. We try to get the word out as soon as we can so everyone can plan accordingly. If you would like to receive text or email notifications on legislation, meetings, events, or other important issues related to this issue, please submit your information so we can notify you.

GET TO KNOW YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS

Any time of the year is the perfect time to get to know your legislators, especially if it's harder for you to get to lobby days during legislative session. How can you do this you ask? Introduce yourself by calling, writing, or requesting to have coffee with your elected official. When they are provided, you can also attend coffee and town hall meetings hosted by your elected official.
